The office of the City Clerk carries out various statutory duties and maintains communication between the City Council, Boards and Commissions and the public.

The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) gives everyone the right to look at and request copies of public data that the City of Burnsville maintains. Records may be viewed for free, paper copies may be purchased for 25 cents per page, and electronic copies are available at actual cost. Submit a Public Data Request.
The City Clerk administers elections, including accepting filings for City offices, hiring and training election judges, assisting residents with absentee voting, and certifying election results. View Election Information.

Minnesota Statue 471.701 requires that a city or county with a population of more than 15,000 must annually notify its residents of the positions and base salaries of its three highest paid employees. The City of Burnsville’s titles and salaries as of January 1, 2021 are: City Manager: $177,138; Fire Chief: $168,471; PW Director: $168,471.
