The City of Burnsville, in partnership with Dakota County, was awarded a MnDOT Transportation Economic Development (TED) grant for construction of a new exit ramp from southbound I-35W under County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 42 to Buck Hill Road. The total project cost is estimated to be about $5M and the TED Grant award is $3.1M.

The Burnsville Center Village Redevelopment Vision includes an extension of Aldrich Avenue connecting CSAH 42 and Buck Hill Road through the Burnsville Center property. This street is envisioned as a multi-modal corridor that will connect the retail and potential future residential areas. There is currently no funding determined for this street.

At this time, the City, Dakota County, and MnDOT are working on preliminary designs for both projects. The I-35W off-ramp has funding for construction and will move on to final design following this preliminary design phase. The Aldrich extension preliminary design will be used to seek funding sources for future construction.

Tentative Schedule

  • Preliminary Design: 2022 - 2023
  • Final Design for Off-Ramp: 2024
  • Construction of Off-Ramp: 2025
